Job Title: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT) Profession:
Respiratory Care Practitioner Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13
Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two years of
respiratory care experience in a critical care setting preferred
License: Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
Certifications: Registered by the National Board of Respiratory
Care. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart
Association required upon hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life
Support within three months of hire. Must-Have: RRT, Pediatric
experience Description: Under general supervision, the Respiratory
Care Practitioner will provide services for the Respiratory Therapy
Department in a timely and efficient manner. The practitioner will
work with all appropriate age levels in the areas served by the
department. They will administer therapeutic treatments as
prescribed by attending medical staff. The practitioner will record
treatment information and the patient’s treatment response in their
computerized medical record. They will act as a resource person to
medical staff. The position involves performing invasive and
non-invasive diagnostic testing and monitoring of patients.
Age-appropriate care will be provided to patients. The practitioner
will ensure that respiratory equipment is cleaned and maintained.
Necessary respiratory therapy records must be maintained. The
practitioner will perform as part of the quick response team for
cardiac and respiratory arrests. Other duties as assigned may also
be required. Candidates should possess knowledge of procedures and
techniques of respiratory therapy and the operation and repair of
respiratory equipment. Clinical decision-making skills appropriate
to patient care relating to the pulmonary and cardiac system and to
the age of the patient are essential. The ability to interpret
appropriate information to identify patients' needs is required.
Candidates must be able to work under stress and have good
interpersonal skills. The ability to maintain a good working
relationship with coworkers and staff is necessary. Some computer
skills are also needed. Graduation from an approved respiratory
care program is required.
