Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 16 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a 6-8 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team, complemented by classroom courses, and a nurse residency program for new graduates. Establishing priorities of care, implementing care, delegating tasks safely, providing safe direct and indirect nursing care. Evaluating responses to interventions, and performing additional nursing functions in accordance with knowledge and skills acquired beyond basic nursing preparation. Diploma or Associate's degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. - - Previous hospital experience helpful preferred. -(Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. New grads are required to complete Norman Regional's Nurse Residency Program.
